The Washington High School class of 1959 will have a luncheon to celebrate its 59th year since graduation 11 a.m. May 9, at the Brainerd American Legion.

Seed, bulb and plant exchange canceled
BACKUS—The seed, bulb and plant exchange and giveaway, hospitality time and potluck scheduled at the Backus American Legion May 19, has been canceled.
Sponsors cited the late spring, a lack of available participants supplying items and reduced participation in the social and potluck events following the plant show as reasons for the cancellation.
The Center's Morning Club to meet
The Center's Morning Club will meet 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Center, 803 Kingwood St., Brainerd.
Brian Sedlachek, Medicare adviser, will be the presenter.
Brainerd Legion upcoming events
A special waffle breakfast with all the trimmings will be served from 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, April 29. Cost is $9 for adults and $4 for kids.
The special dinner for Friday, May 4, will be a 12-ounce rib eye steak for $13. Walleye dinner is also available for $11.
Parkinson's Disease support group monthly meeting
BAXTER—The Parkinson's Disease Support Group will meet 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in the dining room at Edgewood Vista, 14211 Firewood Drive, Baxter.
There will be a presentation from a pharmaceutical company regarding new medications available to treat Parkinson's Disease. This group has met for 13 years sharing information, support and concerns. Caregivers also welcome.

The GSS-Bethany Auxiliary will meet 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3, in the Bethany Community Room, 804 Wright St., Brainerd.

The Good Sam Bowl spaghetti fundraiser will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the VFW Post 1647, 309 S. Sixth St., Brainerd.

Cuyuna Range Women's Club to meet May 7
DEERWOOD—Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson will be the featured speaker at the Cuyuna Range Women's Club meeting Monday, May 7, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Deerwood. The salad luncheon will begin at noon. Note the new location and time.
Attorney General Swanson will provide information on the numerous scams targeted at senior citizens.
According to her website, scams come in all types and sizes, range greatly in complexity and may originate from someone close to you or a stranger halfway around the world. Some of the common scams include computer scams, trust scams, investment scams, magazine scams, lottery scams and identity theft scams.
Scammers are constantly reinventing new ways to perpetrate old ploys. Whether contacted by phone, mail, email, text, or in-person, Attorney General Swanson will provide tips on how to spot a scam and what tell-tale red flags to look for. There will be time for questions.
Swanson was elected Attorney General of the State of Minnesota in 2006, and re-elected in 2010 and 2014. She is Minnesota's 29th Attorney General and its first female Attorney General. Swanson has been an advocate for Minnesota citizens in areas like consumer protection, predatory lending, healthcare, utility rate hikes, telecommunications, public safety and protecting senior citizens from financial fraud.
Entertainment will be provided by the C-I High School Chamber singers.
Hostesses will be the Salem ladies. Women's Club members should bring a salad and a guest.
Senior dances will be 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the Wadena VFW with music by Jerry's Dance Band; from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the Brainerd Blue with music by Marie Laverne Ross; and from 1-4 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Deerwood Legion with music by Country Ramblers.
