■ Moore joins NJPA as new
STAPLES — The National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA) welcomes Kathy Moore, Lake Shore, as its new marketing manager.
As marketing manager, Moore’s primary responsibilities are to lead, supervise and manage all aspects of the marketing department. Moore coordinates the overall brand of NJPA and drives the strategic planning for the various client departments to ensure all marketing needs are meet and communication is successful.
NJPA is a member-focused cooperative located in Minnesota’s Region Five area that offers a variety of contracted products, equipment and service opportunities to education and government entities.
Prior to NJPA, Moore worked at the Brainerd Lakes Chamber and was a marketing consultant with Minnesota’s Small Business Development Center. She worked in hospitality/tourism, economic development, media, higher education, nonprofit, professional athletics and banking. Kathy earned both a bachelor’s and master of arts degree from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa.
Moore currently serves on the Lakeland Public Television Board of Directors, and is on the steering committee of the Brainerd Lakes Area Early Childhood Coalition.
■ Backstrom gains recognition
BAXTER — Don Backstrom, Baxter, received the distinguished honor of being named the September Driver of the Month for the Minnesota Trucking Association (MTA).
Backstrom is a professional driver for Arfsten Transfer Inc. of Clearwater.
Backstrom started in 1995 with Arfsten Transfer. He is approaching 2 million miles driven with only one accident. He was named Arfsten Transfer Inc.’s Driver of the Month 22 times and was runner-up seven times since the inception of the award program in 2005.
■ Lelwica awarded
franchisee of the year
PEQUOT LAKES — Michelle Lelwica, doctor of chiropractic, and Snap Fitness of Pequot Lakes and Morris were awarded the Franchisee of the Year Award at the Snap Fitness convention this October in Las Vegas.
Lelwica maintains a successful multi-discipline practice while running two successful clubs. She’s been a Snap Fitness owner for more than six years and has grown and evolved with the brand in order to continue her success, the company reported. In addition to running her businesses, she has also found time in the past to serve on the Snap franchisee advisory committee, looking out for the best interests of her fellow Snap Fitness owners while helping to set course for the future of the company.
“She’s a hard worker who has earned her success,” said Gary Findley from Snap Corporate office. “It’s because of this that Snap Fitness’s final Franchisee of the Year recipient for this year is Dr. Michelle Lelwica.”
Lelwica praised the team in both of locations and the award was really for them. Her team members include Kristen Gangl, Kari Lohmiller, Marjorie Harris, Andrew Blaeser and all of our instructors at Pequot Lakes Snap Fitness. Joining Lelwica at the award ceremony were the Morris managers Pat Nelson and Stacey Vig, as well as Gangl, personal trainer and manager of Snap Fitness in Pequot Lakes. There are currently about 900 Snap Fitness locations throughout the U.S.

BAXTER — Northern Psychiatric Associates is pleased to announce that our outpatient clinic, located in Baxter, was recently approved as a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

■ Vital forests event is Wednesday
The event, Vital Forests/Vital Communities Redux: So What? Now What? is planned Wednesday at the Cloquet Forestry Center.
Minnesota has more than 16 million acres of forestland and a proud and dynamic forest history. Individuals and organizations with an interest in the past, present and future of Minnesota’s forests, forest economy and forest-dependent communities will participate in a gathering hosted by Dovetail Partners and the Blandin Foundation. The event will bring together past participants of the Blandin Foundation’s Vital Forests/Vital Communities Initiative and interested stakeholders to review developments in Minnesota’s forests and forestry since the initiative ended and to take a look toward the future.

Expo set Thursday
The Minnesota Commercial Association of Real Estate (MNCAR) will host its 7th Annual Expo showcasing 60 plus exhibitors known as key players in the commercial real estate industry on 3-7 p.m. Thursday at The Milwaukee Depot, 225 Third Ave. S, Minneapolis. The program is 3-4 p.m.

on filing for Social Security
LITTLE FALLS — Thrivent Financial is offering a free workshop on how to maximize the amount received from Social Security.
With the aid of sophisticated computer software, Thrivent will present several different options for filing that could dramatically increase a person’s life time Social Security payments.
Options such as, file and suspend, filing restrictive, widow’s benefits, divorced filing on ex-spouse and delayed credits. Workshops will be at the Little Falls Senior Center, 510 Seventh St. NE.
