■ Mitchell receives lifetime achievement award

On Feb. 9, 2013, Scott Mitchell, co-founder and principal of Adventure Advertising, was awarded the Silver Medal for Achievement in Advertising.

The award was presented to him during the American Advertising Federation (AAF) of Central Minnesota’s ADDY Awards Show.

The AAF’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.

Mitchell’s career spans nearly 30 years with agencies in Minneapolis and Brainerd. The Silver Medal Award was bestowed the same night of the ADDY Awards — a national program of the AAF that recognizes outstanding creativity. John Linn and Gina Nacey of Adventure presented the award to Mitchell — Nacey is also a silver medal recipient. Adventure was awarded 20 ADDYs. Adventure has also won five of the last six best of show honors.

■ Johnson joins Nor-Son

BAXTER — Karie Johnson, joined Nor-Son, Baxter, as of Feb. 1 as chief information officer/director of information technology integration and innovation.

Johnson has nearly 20 years of expertise applying technology across the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industries.

Johnson is responsible for developing, directing, and managing Information technology and information systems (IT/IS) strategy and integration across the organization. She will focus on leading Nor-Son’s innovation efforts to continually improve the project delivery process through the application of building information modeling (BIM), virtual design and construction (VDC), and mobile technology.

Johnson serves on the board for AIA Minneapolis and 1006 Summit Avenue Society (the Governor’s Residence Council). She is also a past associate director of AIA Minnesota and the current co-chair of the AIA MN BIM Breakfast Club. In addition, Johnson was recognized as one of “40 Under 40” for Building Design + Construction, and she has been awarded the president citation for BIM Education and Advocacy by AIA Minneapolis. She has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Minnesota and also has Lean & Six Sigma Green Belt Training from Villanova University.

■ Upland Advertising & Design awarded at Addy Competition

Joshua Johnson of Upland Advertising & Design has been awarded the Silver ADDY award for the Bar Harbor Supper Club storefront sign in the “Exterior Site Still” class.

Johnson was honored as the Creative Director and Graphic Designer of the project at the St. Cloud Paramount Theater, Feb. 9, at the American Advertising Federation of Central Minnesota’s annual ADDY Awards. Upland Advertising & Design has been producing business identity through Creative Design and Distinctive Design in the Lakes Area since since 1999.

■ RedHouseMedia wins American Advertising Federation awards

The American Advertising Federation (AAF) awarded RedHouseMedia with three ADDY Awards at the AAF of Central Minnesota’s annual awards show Feb. 9 at the Paramount Theater in St. Cloud.

Keith Larson, art director, and Aaron Hautala, creative director, won a gold ADDY for the Ernie’s on Gull winter and summer themed billboards which can be spotted on Highway 371 north of Baxter.

Larson and Hautala along with Heidi Lake, copywriter, earned a silver ADDY for the city of Staples website, www.greaterstaples.com, while Dain Erickson, senior art director, also won a silver ADDY for a Crow River Dental billboard which is located in Delano.

The ADDY Awards recognize advertising professionals dedicated to creative excellence, providing educational opportunities and effective advertising and marketing.

RedHouseMedia is a Brainerd-based advertising agency located in Franklin Arts Center.

■ Fehn becomes manager

of Salon Seven

BAXTER — Shaylyn Fehn is manager of the new Salon Seven in the Fitquest Center, Baxter.

Fehn has 10 years of salon experience. She previously worked in the Albertville/ Monticello area. She started her career at Artisan Salon and Spa in Albertville working there for more that four years as the artistic director.

Fehn then pursued being a salon manager and began working for herself. She worked at Salon Tuscan in Monticello for the last four years. Fehn recently moved to the area as her husband became a fishing guide and is now helping start Salon Seven in Baxter.

■ Hohenstein joins Bremer Mortgage in Brainerd

Lee Ann Hohenstein joined Bremer Bank as a mortgage loan officer in the Brainerd area.

Hohenstein has more than 17 years of residential real estate mortgage and banking experience and will service clients in the entire Brainerd lakes area and Aitkin.

Hohenstein joins Bremer most recently from Frandsen Bank & Trust in Baxter. Prior to that, she had several different mortgage, banking and leadership positions in the Brainerd area and Twin Cities. Hohenstein studied at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and is an active member of the community. 

“Lee Ann has extensive client service and mortgage experience spread across nearly two decades,” said Karen Gajeski, senior vice president of residential real estate operations at Bremer Financial.

■ Ahlquist Law Office purchases Sandelin Law

PEQUOT LAKES — Clyde C. Ahlquist, Ahlquist Law Office, purchased Sandelin Law Office in Pequot Lakes.

Ahlquist Law Office will continue to operate in the same location at 30849 First St., Pequot Lakes.

Ahlquist graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1985 and has relevant experience in the practice areas of real estate, estate planning, wills and trusts, probate, general business, land use and zoning and municipal law.

Ahlquist is in the process of permanently relocating to the Brainerd lakes area from the Twin Cities and reported he is planning to operate his sole practitioner law firm in Pequot Lakes.
