The Joint Wellness Camp at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center, which performs 500 hip and knee joint replacements each year, recently earned certification from the Joint Commission.
Essential Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center reported this is the second program in the state to receive this recognition. The other is Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.
The certification is based on the unique patient experience and outcomes at the Joint Wellness Camp at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center in cooperation with Northern Orthopedics.
Patient engagement starts with education both before and after surgery including group and one-on-one classes, video instruction, a patient guidebook, caregiver instruction and involvement, and personal post discharge follow-up.
Joint Wellness Camp patients, their families and the community are invited to the Joint Wellness Camp Reunion and Celebration from 2:30-4 p.m. Tuesday at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center, River Room Cafeteria on the Lower Level. The event includes music, camping inspired snacks, and comments from camp graduates. Valet parking is available at the front door. RSVP is requested to 828-7652 or email@example.com.
To earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program, the program demonstrated compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center underwent a rigorous on-site survey in early October. A Joint Commission expert surveyor evaluated the program for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.
This certification program is designed to evaluate clinical programs in three key areas: compliance with national standards of care, effective used of evidence-based clinical guidelines and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement.
