Foreclosures continue, but there is a hopeful sign

Posted: August 5, 2011 - 5:41pm

Foreclosures continued at a strong pace in July with 38 sheriff’s certificates filed in Crow Wing County. But a decrease could be coming.

It all depends on whether a positive sign in July continues.

Properties with a foreclosure pending are listed as Notices of Pendency. In Crow Wing County 29 notices were filed in July  compared to 63 in July of 2010 and 58 in July of 2009.

“The significant decrease in Notices of Pendency is the best positive sign I’ve seen for some time,” said Kathy Ludenia, Crow Wing County recorder. “Let’s hope it continues.”

As far as foreclosures, the numbers are less hopeful at present. The county has grown from 68 foreclosures in all of 2004. By 2010, the county’s foreclosures numbered 388.

July’s foreclosures of 38 compares to 26 at the same time last year and 31 in July of 2009. The numbers for July mean foreclosures for that single month fell just one short of the foreclosure in the entire year in 1999.
