Retirees honored at CLC tribute
Central Lakes College paid tribute to 11 retirees at its annual Recognition Event May 13.
The retirees are Russ Jenkins, 17 years, welding; Terry Fairbanks, 20 years, criminal justice; Shirley Johnson, 20 years, Staples information center; Gerald Goltz, 22 years, Staples maintenance; Lee Todnem, 24 years, farm business management; Marilyn Moses, 26 years, English; Donald Garey, 26 years, communication art and design; James Takala, 28 years, farm business management; Nancy Smith, 31 years, health; Constance Vieths, 36 years, medical secretary.
Betsy Picciano was acknowledged for being named one of four 2011 Outstanding Educators selected by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees.
Stoneman moves to Weichert Realtors-Tower Properties
Realtor Jared Stoneman has made a move to Weichert Realtors - Tower Properties.
Stoneman joined the Brainerd agency after eight months as a member of another local firm to serve buyers and sellers throughout Brainerd Lakes and Wadena County.
Stoneman is a 22-year area resident who makes his home in Wadena. Stoneman said he will continue his education toward earning a degree in marketing.
Fordyce completes training
Andrea Fordyce, the Fine Line Salon and Spa in Brainerd, recently completed training for “Gelish” nail polish.
MPCA enforcement actions total more than $420,000
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency concluded 43 enforcement cases totaling $420,946 in penalties during the first quarter of 2011.
The cases occurred at facilities in 31 counties throughout Minnesota.
Area cases included:
• $30,000 — Mid State Recycling Services, James Kopachek, Pine River, for solid waste and hazardous waste violations.
• $25,000 — Bill Tulenchik, Pequot Lakes, for feedlot violations.
• $9,638 – Hoss Demolition Landfill, Walker, for solid waste violations.
• $2,687 – Cass Lake Wastewater Treatment Facility, Cass Lake, for water quality violations.

MMBA Social Mixer planned Thursday in Nisswa
The Mid-Minnesota Builders Association’s social mixer is scheduled from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Ye Old Pickle Factory, Nisswa, sponsored by West Central Lift & Elevator Inc.
MMBA members and non-members can meet, network and have free appetizers. There is no need to register and participants are welcome to bring a friend or a co-worker.
‘Going Into Business For Yourself’ workshop scheduled
Central Lakes College scheduled a “Going Into Business For Yourself” workshop at the Business and Industry Center 6 to 9 p.m. June 9 in Brainerd.
This session covers all areas of business start-up, helpful advice on how to get your dream off the ground and stay profitable, including financing a new venture.
Follow-up counseling is available to qualified individuals from the Small Business Development Center’s team of consultants at no charge to the individual.
Tuition is $49 per person plus $29 for each additional business partner. Instructor is Jay Bock.
The deadline to register is June 2.

TDS Telecommunications announces executive assignments
TDS Telecommunications Corp. announced two high-profile executive leadership changes aimed at accelerating growth.
William Megan, executive vice president-Finance and chief financial officer for TDS Telecommunications Corp. was named to lead TDS’ fast growing Hosted and Managed Services operation, which includes TEAM Companies and VISI Incorporated data service centers. TDS will maintain management responsibility for HMS and Megan will oversee all day-to-day operations. He will maintain responsibility for HMS results and will also lead TDS’ HMS business development activities. His title will be president-HMS Operations LLC.
Simultaneously, Vicki Villacrez, who currently serves as assistant treasurer for Telephone and Data Systems, Inc. will become TDS Telecommunications Corp.’s vice president-Finance and CFO, on an interim basis. Villacrez will have direct management responsibility for all accounting, internal controls, revenue assurance, financial planning, and strategic planning functions at TDS.
