Skinner joins Nutrition Services Department
Chef Paul Skinner joined the Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center Nutrition Services Department.
Skinner will lead the culinary staff and focus on menu development. Skinner has experience cooking for a crowd being from a family of 12 children in northern Wisconsin. He earned an associate’s degree in applied science culinary arts from Nicolet College of Rhinelander, Wis.
His more than 14 years of culinary experience includes country clubs, restaurants, catering and hospital food service.
Most recently, Skinner was the executive chef and food service director at Portage Health in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Reimer, Durose join J.C. Penney salon
BAXTER — Michelle Reimer and Ashley Durose recently joined the J.C. Penney salon as stylists.
Osterloh attends 2011 land conference
Rod Osterloh, broker at Close-Converse in Brainerd, attended the Realtors Land Institute event in Nashville, Tenn., on March 24-25.
The conference started with speed networking, where transactions were initiated, and ended with a presentation about the importance of teamwork for success. Osterloh led a round table for timberland brokers.
Osterloh leads the land group at Close-Converse. Osterloh has been a real estate professional since 1978.
Anderson joins Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center
Miranda Anderson was named marketing and public relations director for Essentia Health Central Region, Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center reported.
Anderson succeeds Kim Deiss, who assumed a marketing leadership role in the East Region.
Anderson has 10 years of marketing strategy and development experience. She has worked for such organizations as Lyngblomsten Care Facilities in St. Paul, Russell & Herder, Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union and, most recently, the Brainerd Lakes Chamber. Anderson has a bachelor’s degree from Bemidji State University in mass communications with an emphasis in public relations and advertising.
Anderson will be responsible for leading marketing efforts in the Essentia Health Central Region which includes St. Joseph’s Medical Center, as well as eight clinics and specialty areas. In addition, she will serve as a member of the Essentia Health corporate marketing team and will be responsible for coordinating and implementing system level marketing strategies in the central region.
Remmick joins HealthSource Chiropractic
Dillon Remmick, doctor of chiropractic, formerly of Brainerd Lakes Wellness, joined HealthSource Chiropractic and Progressive Rehab.
The chiropractic franchise has more than 300 clinics nationwide. Remmick reported he underwent a comprehensive training program as part of his acceptance into HealthSource Chiropractic and his clinic, on Design Road in Baxter, has changed its name to HealthSource of Baxter.
Mille Lacs CNA students complete study
The first cohort of nursing assistant students from the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe recently completed three months of study offered by Central Lakes College at Mille Lacs Health System.
They were in a three-credit CLC course that provides the required basis for employment as well as career advancement in nursing and other health-related work.
A $24,700 HealthForce Minnesota diversity grant for career training in healthcare enabled CLC to collaborate and customize training on the Mille Lacs reservation.
“This is an opportunity to encourage American Indian students to see themselves working in the health care profession,” said Mary Sam, CLC director of Diversity and Student Affairs.
Staples student earns Mike Rowe Scholarship
Jeremy Janousek of Staples received a $500 “tools” scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation in partnership with the Associated Equipment Distributors.
Janousek is an honor student in the Central Lakes College Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology associate in applied science degree program.
Central Lakes College President Larry Lundblad recently presented the award, which was accompanied by an autographed photo of Mike Rowe of the “Dirty Jobs” Discovery Channel TV show and a certificate from AED.
AED is a nonprofit, international trade association representing dealerships and rental companies in construction, mining, forestry, power generation, agriculture and industry. AED membership includes equipment manufacturers and industry-service firms.
Rowe is the founder and host of “Dirty Jobs” who works with the AED Foundation to create and distribute training materials and other educational tools to career and technical schools across the United States.
The Diesel Tech program at CLC is affiliated with AED and was among the first in the nation to be accredited by AED since its creation in 1919, according to Dan Gunderson, instructor, who has been involved with the group since 1995.
Adamek earns GRI
CROSSLAKE — Mary DuBois Adamek, sales associate in the Crosslake Edina Realty office, completed the coursework necessary to earn the Graduate Realtors Institute designation.
Dubois Adamek completed 60 hours of courses covering marketing, technology and legal requirements, as well as regulatory rules. It is estimated that only about 19 percent of real estate agents throughout the United States earn this designation.

Lakes Vybe Luncheon to talk ergonomics
The Lakes Vybe group, which links people ages 21 to 40 by offering educational programs and networking, plans to meet April 21 to talk about ergonomics in the workplace.
Participants will receive a free workspace assessment checklist and learn different options for making a workspace fit, including trying products to improve posture at work along with other ideas.

Essentia Health offers Women’s Health Series
Two free women’s health series events are planned with Essential Health.
How dietary choices affect your gastro-intestinal health is scheduled April 26 and Diabetes Prevention and Prevalence...Am I at risk? is planned May 3. Both events start at 7 p.m. and are at Timbermist, 19654 Country Highway 3, just south of Merrifield.
The April 26 event includes appetizers, including spinach dip, turkey wrapped asparagus, stuffed mushrooms, and cheese and crackers while learning more about how to choose a diet that is friendly to digestive health.
Essentia Health dietician Teresa Farrell along with Melonee Ruhl, registered nurse, on how to find long term solutions instead of drug store quick fixes. Also on hand will be Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Medical Center’s Chef Paul Skinner to provide a meal idea that is GI friendly.
On May 3 at 7 p.m. Essentia Health’s Diabetes Resource Program staff Danette Holznagel, RN and diabetes coordinator, and Barb Risnes, diabetes clinician, will highlight the risk factors and key steps for prevention.
