BAXTER — The economy will be center stage at the Brainerd Lakes Area Development Corp.’s annual meeting Tuesday.
The event will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Lodge at Brainerd Lakes in Baxter with a champagne chicken lunch for $15.
The keynote speaker is Scott Anderson, Wells Fargo director and senior economist. Anderson’s talk is titled “Building a Foundation.”
Anderson has more than 15 years of experience in macroeconomics. Based in Minneapolis, Anderson is responsible for the analysis and forecasting of international, national and regional economic trends. He was recently named one of the top 10 economic forecasters in the country by USA Today for 2008. Before joining Wells Fargo as senior economist in 2001, he held positions at Moody’s Economic.com in Philadelphia and the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.
Anderson provides daily analyses of U.S. economic releases, and contributes to the Wells Fargo Economics’ macroeconomical forecast. He authors the Wells Fargo California and Minnesota Outlook reports and contributes to both the Monthly Fixed Income report and the Weekly Financial Market Strategies report. He also covers the economies of Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota and both his master’s of philosophy in economics and his doctorate in economics at George Washington University.
Since 2005, he’s been a member of the American Bankers Association Economic Advisory Committee and the Federal Reserve’s Survey of Professional Forecasters. He joined Western Blue Chip Forecasts’ regional forecasting panel in 2001.
Since 2004, he’s been a member of the National Association of Business Economists’ Macroeconomic Forecasting Panel, the Financial Roundtable Committee, the macro-forecasting panel of the Bureau of National Affairs Forecasts and the USA Today and Wall Street Journal macroeconomic forecasting panels.
Plans include area speakers to provide business perspectives for the lakes region. Those speakers include: artist Paul Bloom; Scott Juranek, ChamberMaster; Brad Erickson, Landis+Gyr.
