My latest food stop was at The Lakes Grill & Bar, north of Baxter on Highway 371 and across from Brainerd International Raceway.
The story and photos may be found on the food page of today’s (Thursday, April 26) Brainerd Dispatch.
One thing you won’t find in that story was the fact that breakfast will be served at the eatery.
I didn’t mention it in my story because I didn’t go there for breakfast. I’m usually not up that early.
But looking at the menu there are a few things I would be interested in trying.
Thursday I was forced to play nine holes of golf for a segment the Brainerd Dispatch is putting together for the Brainerd Lakes Marketplace.
Eric Peterson, director of golf at Cragun’s Legacy Courses in East Gull Lake, was kind enough to accommodate me and Dispatch reporter/Sideline View co-producer Jessi Pierce for the afternoon. Mitch at the front desk was trusting enough to believe me when I told him this unbelievable scenario and ushered us off1 to the back nine of Dutch’s where we wouldn’t offend or disturb any of the important — read paying — clientele.
Grand View Lodge’s Cru restaurant in Nisswa will be the setting tonight.
I’m heading there to experience the talents of chef Paul Fitzpatrick and enjoy the atmosphere created by manager Christine Ianelli.
My boys basketball season starts tonight with the Brainerd vs. Pequot Lakes game at Brainerd High School. It's an odd beginning to the season with three new coaches. It's going to be hard to get used to not seeing Lynn Peterson, Kurt Stumpf and Wade Haapajoki on their respective sidelines. I enjoyed working with all three coaches and felt the later two could have created something similar to what Peterson enjoyed for so many years in Staples.
I'm in the process of typing up the Brainerd Warriors wrestling team's season preview. I had a few questions rattle through my fingertips that might be fun for a little discussion among mat fans.
First: Who was the best wrestler you ever saw from the Brainerd lakes area and why?
Second: Who is the top wrestler from your high school? I have all the 100 match winners, but with more matches being wrestled now days, what gets lost are some of the older guys who didn't even wrestle 100 times in their career.
The Brainerd Dispatch sports department will announce its 2011 All-Area Volleyball Team and Player of the Year awards Nov. 19.
Who absolutely needs to make the list of the area's top 12 players and why? Who would be your choice for player of the year and why?
What was your favorite moment from the 2011 volleyball season?
And a bit of trivia. Who led the Brainerd lakes area in kills this season?
Let's hear some educated guesses as to which legendary NFL franchise wins Super Bowl XLV Feb. 6 in Arlington, Texas.
I'm not sure which direction I'm going yet. I like the Green Bay Packers' offense on the turf and Aaron Rodgers is playing the best at the quarterback position right now. But Big Ben does just enough to win and his two Super Bowl rings proves he can win in big games.
Both defenses are tremendous and similar since Dom Capers worked for both franchises.
One good thing has already happened this new year — the Minnesota Vikings have stopped embarrassing themselves.
At least on the field.
Many things need to be fixed before the start of the next season, whenever that may be. The first thing is changing Leslie Frazier’s title from interim head coach to head coach. That happened Monday so a pat on the back to the Wilf franchise for getting one thing right so far.
