One of the favorite features for many people to visit on our website was Spotted®.

We started using Spotted® to share (and make available for purchase) more of the great photos our staff and photographers were shooting at events, news scenes and sporting activities with our readers in 2005 when our previous owner, Morris Communications Co. released it for use.

With our sale to Forum Communications Co. this year, we lost the use of Spotted®, but we have been hard at work finding and shaping a replacement.

Hi,

Just letting you know of the status' of the BrainerdDispatch.com and PineAndLake.com websites since our move to Forum Communications servers on Friday.

We are aware of issue with the BrainerdDispatch.com navigation bar text in Firefox. If you are having this and an update of your javascript doesn't take care of it, a temporary work around is to type in a forward slash and then the section name after the BrainerdDispatch.com url in your address bar at the top of the window. Example: http://brainerddispatch.com/obits .

A list of section names follows:
/news
/sports
/obits

We will be moving our websites, BrainerdDispatch.com and PineAndLakes.com, from the servers of Morris Communications to those of our new owners, Forum Communications on Friday morning.

While we anticipate (and hope) that no issues will crop up, please be patient should service be interrupted or access be sporadic between 8:00 am and 10:00 am central time Feb. 28.

This message is to make all Spotted© photo contributors aware that with the sale of the Brainerd Dispatch and Echo Publishing to Fargo Communications Co. our use of the Spotted© photo sharing platform, which is the intellectual property of our former owner, Morris Communications, will end.

Freewheeling reader comments, unedited and unattributable may be coming to an end.

I sat in on a weekly company technology conference call last week.

One of the items on the agenda was a report regarding another of our company's news operations and their switch to requiring all comments to be attributed by real name and commenting only allowed by subscribers.

These two requirements go hand-in-hand because the paid subscription information is where the real name is pulled from.

When I saw this morning that the Chiefs had released Matt Cassel, my immediate thought was "Please don't let anyone from the Vikings learn of this", we've tasted other teams leftovers for too many years.

Unfortunately, Cassel has just the stats that seem to invigorate the Viking's "We can rehabilitate this guy and he'll be good again" attitude that has rarely proved itself.

We believe respectful and civil conversation is essential to a community, and we need your help to improve the quality of story commenting.

Our new user point system is part of that effort. You'll be awarded points for good commenting and for helping improve the commenting (voting, flagging spam, et cetera).

If you break the rules, you may lose points. If we have to block your account, you'll lose everything.

Some of this is automated, but it will take a few days to be fully configured, so don't be surprised if your point total says at zero for awhile.

The website BrainerdDispatch.com experienced an outage early Thursday afternoon, Sept. 22, from approximately 12:20 pm to 1:50 pm.

If you tried to access BrainerdDispatch.com during that time frame, you may have gotten an error message that read "Forbidden".

Many of our readers saw that message and thought they were being denied access to our website, (and actually they were) just not on the scale or the reason that they believed.

The error was causing the website to deny access to anyone who tried to view the website, even internally.

The Brainerd Dispatch will debut a new website Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Not just a makeover, it's a brand new brainerddispatch.com with an entirely new underlying architecture and design.
