Join us for Creating Comics with Blake Hoena on Wednesday, February 8th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. In Hoena’s workshop, teens ages 10-18, will take characters of their own creation and develop a funny, bizarre or scary situation to place them into. Participants will be creating a short comic while learning the important elements of creating comics. Darcy Dwyer, Brainerd Public Library’s Youth Librarian, said, “Kids love reading comics and this workshop is a great way to guide young authors on how to make their own comics.

Composer Rick Sowash will visit the Brainerd Public Library on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30pm. Sowash was commissioned by the Heartland Symphony Orchestra to write "North Country Suite" which will be premiered in Brainerd on Sunday, April 15 at 2:00pm at the Tornstrom Auditorium. Join us at the Brainerd Public Library on Tuesday, April 10 at 6:30pm as Rick gives us insight to how “North Country Suite" depicts the landscape and the character of the people of northern Minnesota. Rick will describe the five movements in “North Country Suite”:

I. Spirit of the North
II. Northern Lights

After years of touring the Midwest with their bluegrass band, childhood best friends Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, originally of Denver, Colorado, decided to return to where it all began: childhood imagination. That’s when they moved to Minneapolis to start their family music band called The Okee Dokee Brothers. They will be here to delight and inspire you on Thursday, May 17th at 3:30pm at the Brainerd Public Library. And the best part is it’s all free of charge, affordable for any family.

“Curtis and Loretta are in many ways the quintessential folk duo: finely honed vocal harmonies of multidimensional intrigue, abundant talent on an array of stringed instruments, deep traditional roots, great originals, and equally strong strains of gravity and playful irreverence,” Rick Mason wrote in the Minneapolis City Pages A-List. Curtis and Loretta will be at the Brainerd Public Library on Wednesday July 11 at 2:00pm.

The Brown Bag Lunch Summer Authors’ Series welcomes its fifth author, Margi Preus, on Monday, July 9th, from noon to 1pm at the Brainerd Public Library. Preus is an award-winning children’s author and playwright.

Eric Dregni is our seventh author in the Brainerd Public Library Brown Bag Lunch Summer Authors’ series. He will speak Monday, July 23rd from noon to 1pm at the Brainerd Public Library. His talk will focus on his latest book, Vikings in the Attic: In Search of Nordic America, published by the University of Minnesota Press.

The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library Brown Bag Lunch Summer Author Series will be hosting author Alice Palace on Monday, July 30 at 12:00pm at the Brainerd Public Library.

The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library’s last Brown Bag Lunch of the summer features Alice Palace, an illustrator and author of a 10-book series of children’s books about a little boy named Marvin. Alice is a resident of Emily, Minnesota, and will talk about her experiences writing and illustrating books, greeting cards, and gifts of all kinds.

Play from CLIMB Theatre preformed at the Brainerd Public Library August 9th at 11:30am

CLIMB Theatre will present The Tortoise and the Hare, especially for ages 3-8 and their families, with interactive fun. They will be at the Brainerd Public Library on Thursday, August 9th performing at 11:30am.
