Thank you, supporters of the arts in the Brainerd lakes area! Performances for "To Kill a Mockingbird" sold out. The Lamplighters in Staples had a full house for most of their shows. My original play, "Coffee Shop Confessions," sold out in the first week. We're opening tonight, March 2, at the Coco Moon at 6:30. See recent posts on my writer's blog www.maryaalgaard.blogspot.com. We'll be performing again on April 9, at the Senior Center for their fundraiser dinner. Call DeAnn, 829-9345, to reserve a spot. We'll add a few more performances at a location to be determined. Watch this blog and my writer's blog for details. Thank you so much for the support of this new work, and for the support you've shown for other artists and shows.
I'd also like to encourage you to attend Gaelic Storm at Tornstrom Auditorium on March 8, at 7:30 pm. I heard them last year and was blown away by their sound and personalities. It was an evening filled with energizing music, colorful stories, and beautiful musicians. Patrick, the lead singer, also plays many instruments. He picked up the accordian and said, "The accordian is the sexiest instrument." There is something about Irish music that raises my heart rate and sets my toes tapping.
Don't miss your chance to see "Arsenic and Old Lace" up in Pequot Lakes, March 23-25, and March 30-April 1. This is classic theatre that never gets "old." Just don't drink the tea! More info here, http://www.glapa.info/
Our area is filled with a tremendous amount of local musicians and artists. Visit the Q Gallery at the Franklin Center. Discover a new band at a local establishment, or start your own. You never know what you can do until you try.
