Adventures Await Your Presence by Mary Aalgaard

Entertainment offerings are heating up as the temperatures are cooling down. Don't let the first glimpse of snow keep you home and covered up under a blanket. This is the time of year when talents light up the dark evenings.

I've had a slow week in the entertainment world. I'm still feeling the afterglow of recent performances by The National Players at CLC "Of Mice and Men", Seth Doud at The Last Turn, and "The Edge of Our Bodies" at The Guthrie in Minneapolis. (You can read those reviews on my personal blog Look for blog titles under "blog archives" or "Labels.")

Just as I've turned up the heat and dug out the hot chocolate, I opened the Entertainment section and got inspired. Confession, I've never seen a performance of "The 1940's Radio Hour," which is ridiculous because I love radio, music of the 40's, and live performances. Guess what's on the top of my list for this weekend?

If you missed "Deer Camp the Musical" in Brainerd last weekend, you can catch it in Little Falls on Friday night at 7:30. I hear it's a hoot. Check the Entertaiment section for local schools and community theatre offerings.

If you love music, the selections are varied and abundant. The Legacy Chorale is making its tour of the area featuring Spirituals, my favorite. The Brainerd High School A Capella Choir will open for them at the Nov. 20 concert at Lord of Life Church in Baxter. CLC choir is performing tonight.

Of course, the local bars offer live music, but if the bar scene is not for you, head up to Nisswa on Friday night for their Grassroots concert series. This is a night club and coffee bar. When you go here, it's all about the music, and this week is Tim Sparks. You can also catch readings and author visits at the library, or bluegrass music at coffee shops.
