Republican House District 10B candidate Dale Lueck of rural Aitkin wasn’t able to return a reporter’s phone call until 6:45 p.m. Thursday. His livestock had to be fed.
When the cattle rancher and former Aitkin County commissioner got up to speed on news of the House Republican Campaign Committee (HRCC) staffer who had misrepresented himself as a Hill City DFLer in a letter published in both the Aitkin Independent Age and the Brainerd Dispatch he seemed disappointed and a little irritated.
“These whiz kids that come up here and drop lit (campaign literature) and help — if that was one of them — for goodness sakes we don’t need that kind of help up here in our part of Minnesota.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the staffer, Stephen Sundquist, was no longer working for the HRCC or for any House campaigns, Earlier Thursday, Minnesota DFL Chair Ken Martin had filed a complaint against Sundquist, charging a violation of the Fair Campaign Practides Actaccording to Jodi Boyne, a committee spokesperson.
“He’s one of the...what I call one of the whiz kids,” Lueck said of Sundquist. This individual thought he was a Karl Rove or some kind of super operative.”
Lueck is in a race against DFLer Joe Radinovich of Crosby in House District 10B. The district includes Aitkin County and eastern Crow Wing County.
