Congrats to veteran Brainerd Warriors coaches Ron Stolski and Dave Maras for being nominated and/or receiving an award from their respective sports.
• Stolski is nominated for the first Don Shula Award, which will be given to one of 28 candidates throughout the country who displays the integrity, achievement and leadership demonstrated by Don Shula, the winningest coach in NFL history. Other candidates include Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints, John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens, Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants and Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks. The selection panel includes Shula, Tony Dungy, Roger Goodell and John Madden. Stolski has won more games than any man in Minnesota State High School League football history. If he wins he will receive $25,000 and a trip to next month's Super Bowl in Texas.
•Maras will receive a service award from the Minnesota Gymnastics Foundation Feb. 19 at the Radisson Hotel in Roseville. He is in his 29th season as the Warriors' head coach. Entering this season Maras' Warrior teams had an eye-opening .883 dual-meet win percentage.
