Celebrating the arts and sense of community, The Crossing Arts Alliance (TCAA) is co-sponsoring a concert highlighting a Brainerd High School (BHS) graduate for the fifth year in a row, and a community art exhibition, coinciding with BHS homecoming week.
Phil Mattson & Singers “What a Wonderful World” Concert (plus local Consensus Ensemble), will be held Sunday, October 7 at 3pm, at Franklin Arts Center auditorium, 1001Kingwood Street, Brainerd, MN. Phil is a Brainerd High School 2012 Hall of Fame inductee.
The Phil Mattson Singers is a six-voice vocal ensemble based in Minneapolis, and include: Paula Lammers, Linnea Brashears, Jody McCormick, Mark Hoffman, Bill Blatzheim and Howard Hilde. The group’s primary repertoire is vocal jazz arrangements of songs from the “Great American Songbook”, i.e. works by the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Harold Arlen, Duke Ellington and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Consensus Ensemble members include Laurie and Sonya Chamberlain, Grace Forbord, David and Jennifer Pelowski, Daniel and Virginia Rohr, and Brian and Jennifer Stubbs.
General seating tickets are $10 (or $5 for TCAA members) available at The Crossing Arts Alliance, Insty-Prints, Bridge of Harmony, and at the door.
An artists’ reception follows the concert at the Q Gallery, immediately after the concert at 4:45pm. New this year at the reception is a upcycled art sale and silent auction. TCAA’s annual membership meeting will be held after the reception, with election of new board members.
Artists featured in the 2012 Community Art Exhibition at the Q Gallery include Mary Anne Bennett, Chip Borkenhagen, Kathy Braud, Matt DeVries, Carole Eliseuson, Millie Engisch-Morris, Gary Harris, Lynne Johnson, Lonnie Knutson, Rosellyn Knutson, Yolanda Martini, Evelyn Matthies, Ron Morris, Brenda Pfeffer, Cindy Potvin, Natalie Potvin, Andy Pucko, Greg Rosenberg, Steve Seevers, Kathleen Thorson, Chase Vreeland, John Wgeishofski, Diane Whiting, and Jim Whiting. The exhibition is free and open to the public, October 9 to 26, Tuesday to Friday from noon to 4, and Saturday, October 13 from 10am to 2pm, or by appointment.
TCAA activities are funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund; and grants from Sertoma Winter Wonderland and the Anderson Family Legacy Fund. This concert is co-sponsored by Bridge of Harmony and Music General.
