“Millions of men have lived to fight, build palaces and boundaries, shape destinies and societies; but the compelling force of all times has been the force of originality and creation profoundly affecting the roots of human spirit.” — Ansel Adams, American photographer and environmentalist (1902 - 1984)
There has been a movement to encourage people to shop locally this holiday season. I would like to take it one step further and encourage people to shop for local art and fine crafts for gifts this season. Sustaining local artists helps foster creativity.
A great place to find local art is at The Crossing Arts Alliance Sales & Gift Gallery, conveniently located at Franklin Arts Center, 1001 Kingwood St #114, in Brainerd. This fine shop is a gem for shoppers who get claustrophic in large crowds. Kudos to the sales gallery committee for the attractive display, welcoming atmosphere, and keeping the art fresh. Thank you Lonnie Knutsen, Mary Boran, Ruth Anne Weaver, Ellen Smith, and Diane Runberg. Click on the Sales Gallery tab to see the impressive list of over 60 artists that are represented. On Black Friday, November 11, all shoppers who make a purchase over $10 receive a FREE cookbook, while supplies last.
Sales & Gift Gallery shoppers have options. The committee has created a new time-payment plan for buyers that want to spread payments out (for purchases over $100). Ask for more details, if you are interested. Those who are on a tight budget will be happy to see many items that are priced at under $20, including pottery, jewelry, candles, prints, spinning tops, tree ornaments, wine stoppers, and cards. Plus gift certificates are an easy option for the difficult-to-buy-for on your list.
Wishing you a happy, art-filled holiday season!!
