The Friends of the Brainerd Public Library annual Brown Bag Lunch Summer Author Series hosts author Shawn Lawrence Otto on Monday, June 25 at 12:00pm.
Join us as Shawn Lawrence Otto’s discusses his book, Fool Me Twice: Fighting the Assault on Science in America. Fool Me Twice is a behind-the-scenes look at how the government, our politics, and the media prevent us from finding the real solutions we need - and offers suggestions about what we can do to change course. In it Otto explores the scientific values that our country was founded on, and traces the relationship between science and politics throughout our history. Fool Me Twice is a 2012 Minnesota Book Award Winner.
Shawn Lawrence Otto is an award-winning science advocate and humanitarian who works for smarter politics on a global scale. He organized a national science debate between Barack Obama and John McCain that was the largest political initiative in the history of science, which has been emulated in other nations. He is a regular speaker at science events. Shawn is also the writer and coproducer of the Oscar-nominated film House of Sand and Fog starring Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. In addition to his book and movies, Otto's work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Science, Issues in Science and Technology, Salon, Huffington Post, Minnpost, New Scientist, Scientific American, Nature Medicine, and others, and he writes a blog, Neorenaissance, on the antiscience beat and the intersection of knowledge, politics, art and culture.
