It's only February and it's been an exciting year already. Much has happened since I took this exciting job 6 weeks ago.
We had our first Family Movie time on the big screen in January. 30 people showed up. Saturday, February 5th we had another family movie time and 55 people showed up. The feedback has been fantastic!! The movie is shown on a projector that shows up on our entire front wall of our large conference room. Sound is piped in overhead and gives a total movie theater experience. Many are waiting for the next movie on February 26th. Come and check it out!
I've scheduled Author/Illustrator Lauren Stringer at the library on Wednesday February 16th at 6:30 pm. Stringer writes and draws many children's book including Red Rubber Boots and Fold Me a Poem. She'll share her stories and let you fold origami.
On February 17th I will be starting a baby storytime every Thursday morning at 11:15. The baby storytime will be geared towards those birth to 24 months. A short book will be read and it will be full of songs, music, puppets and fun. This is in addtion to our other family storytimes Mondays at 6:30 pm and Tuesdays at 10:15 am.
The plan for the summer reading program is to make it better than ever! The theme this year is One World, Many stories. Shortly after the program starts on June 1st kids will be invited to make a passport. Then each week we will explore and read out a new continent. See if you can get a stamp in your passport from every continent. Come and tell me where in the world you are going to read this summer. We plan to have wonderful prizes, puppet shows and performers. Get prizes just for reading books. How easy is that?
We will have a teen reading program (ages 12-18) this summer too. As well has starting a monthly teen book club and introduce our growing collection of e audio books to teens.
My goal is to get new faces of young readers in the library in 2011 and keep our current patrons excited about everything available at the Brainerd Public Library. With all there is to offer it should not make people wonder IF they'll be back but WHEN!!
