BACKUS - Cass County Economic Development Corporation (CCEDC) has seen an increase since the first of this year in people interested in starting new businesses, Director Gail Leverson reported to Cass County Board April 17.
BACKUS - Cass County will lease to Minnesota DNR for a wildlife management area 82 acres the county purchased from Potlatch to be managed with 92 tax-forfeited acres and 49 state-owned acres in Byron Township.
WALKER - Cass County Board approved the updated county five-year capital improvement plan Tuesday. It calls for using solid waste fee revenue to replace the transfer station baler in 2014 for an estimated $225,000.
WALKER - Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson obtained county board approval Tuesday to advertise 18 non-conservation land parcels for sale to the public at a 9 a.m. June 23 auction at the courthouse in Walker.

WALKER - Administrator Robert Yochum reported Tuesday on the county board's meeting with area legislators in St. Paul during the recent Association of Minnesota Counties convention.
BACKUS - County Engineer David Enblom and Assistant Engineer Kris Lyytinen presented the proposed road maintenance plan for 2012 to the county board Tuesday.
Scheduled for crack sealing will be County State Aid Highways (CSAH) 31, 42, 1, 40 and 14.
BACKUS - Cass County could lose almost $100,000 state payment in lieu of tax (PILT) if proposed state legislation passes this session, Land Commissioner Joshua Stevenson informed the county board Tuesday.
